About House of Hsu

House of Hsu is a chinese restaurant in Grand Ledge, Michigan. It is listed at 639 E Saginaw Hwy, Grand Ledge, MI 48837, which places it among the local businesses of Grand Ledge that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Grand Ledge; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Michigan are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–8:30 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach House of Hsu at (517) 627-4232; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, houseofhsumi.com.

I have been eating here since it opened in the 1978ish and today may be the last time I will ever order from the restaurant again. I tried to tell the woman on the phone I had a huge problem with the egg rolls that came in our lunch specials. She focused on they come free with the meal. The egg rolls were raw inside! All dough with not even a tablespoon, maybe a teaspoon, of filling in it. Making the lunch special egg rolls smaller than the regular is a cheap move they should be embarrassed about but putting just a smear of filling into them and serving me raw dough is a health concern and the women did not even see the problem with raw dough… it is free! None of the food was even similar to what I have ordered consistently for the last 30 years let alone almost 50. No flavor and watery when just a couple of years ago they were still thickening and seasoning it properly… oh the fried rice should not be called fried rice anymore, it was plain and blah, not fried! You might as well go to one of the buffets in Lansing…at least their food is fresh and has flavor and I never had a raw egg rolls when I ate there. It was so disappointing at the House of Hsu that it was absolutely sic

A hidden gem. We enjoyed a beautiful meal in a quiet, authentic atmosphere. The sizzling rice soup was loaded with good stuff. Pass on the Chinese restaurants in the area and come here. It is a special place you must experience.

I walked into this Chinese restaurant expecting dinner… and left with a whole new outlook on life. First of all, the food? Unreal. I ordered what I thought would be a simple meal, and somehow every bite felt like it had been handcrafted by a wise noodle master who’s been perfecting flavor since the Ming Dynasty. The orange chicken didn’t just taste good—it gave me confidence. The fried rice? I’m pretty sure it fixed at least three of my personal problems. Halfway through the meal, I realized I was sitting up straighter, making better decisions, and texting people back faster. By the time I finished, I felt like I could run a marathon, start a business, and reconnect with my childhood dreams—all before dessert. Speaking of dessert, I got a fortune cookie that said, “Great things are coming your way,” and honestly… after that meal, I believe it. 10/10. Came for dinner, left as a better human being.

I really didn't even want to give them a one star for their service or their atmosphere. But that's the lowest I could put on there. Don't get me wrong. Their food was great. But they are rude. The service sucked, they only came to us to take our order. And give us the check and on the check. They charged us $6.50 for a tip. And we already put a tip on the table. They said it was mandatory on Sundays. Now this is like you, they are not allowed to charge you. This, but my mom did not want me to argue with them. They told my mom she was always doing this all the time and my mom and I hardly ever go in there. Once in a Blue Moon. There was no posting on that. They would charge an extra tip on Sunday because they know it's illegal. So watch your receipts, watch your what you paying to this place. If you go in there

This is our go-to restaurant. The food and service are excellent. The menue is huge and the prices are very good. We love the egg drop soup, sizzling rice soup, and egg rolls. Favorite dish is the sweet and sour chicken as they add pineapple and green peppers. Also, the birds nest (vegetables), beef and broccoli, ginger chicken, and general hso dishes. Some of the dishes are marked hot, but I have not had a spicy dish. If you want something real spicy, I would ask for more seasoning. The restaurant is dark and relaxing.
